About Me

My name is Manjeet K. Dhillon and I am Subject Librarian for the School of Education and Community at University College Birmingham (UCB). From February 2015, I am taking over the role from David Renfree, who is now looking after the University's online resources. My role involves assisting both staff and students within the department to carry out their research by guiding them to suitable print and online resources.

Many of you will be familiar with David’s blog which has been an invaluable source of reference for students and frequently, users outside of UCB. Although this blog will have it's own distinct flavour, you will see some familiar elements borrowed from David's blog, which he has kindly shared, (thanks David!), so hopefully you will be able to find your way around this site with ease.

Apart from this role, I am also Subject Librarian for the School of Tourism (since 2001) and maintain a separate tourism-related blog. Professional interests include student information-seeking behaviour, which was also the topic of my Masters dissertation. I later wrote a chapter entitled ‘Online information-seeking and higher education students’ for the book, ‘Youth Information Seeking Behavior II’. From 2002-2010, I was a tourism subject consultant for Intute, providing content to populate the website. I have presented a paper entitled ‘Intelligent Searching: creating and sustaining independent learners’ at the ‘Developing Skills for Study in Higher Education’ conference at Wolverhampton University.

If you have any queries relating to this blog, need help with finding resources for an assignment or for an in-depth research enquiry relating to your dissertation, please contact me for an appointment. The Subject Librarians also offer regular workshops as well as one-to-one tutorials in how to use online resources.
